Prospective Members
Love to sing? Join us! BACH is always welcoming new singers.
Our members are generally experienced choral singers, with a mixture of amateur and professional musicians (professors, scientists, high school teachers, students, church musicians, full-time parents, retired people, and other music lovers). Baroque music is the cornerstone of each season, but we use that as a jumping-off point for exploring repertoire from many time periods. Singers who read music - and are high-school age and older - are encouraged to audition.
The Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana invites interested singers to audition for the choir online on Saturday, January 4th between 11 and 1:30. Rehearsals for BACH's next concert on March 2nd will begin on the evening of January 6th and continue weekly on Mondays in Urbana. To sign up, fill out the audition form by January 2nd. Auditions consist of scales, tonal memory, sightsinging, and 1-2 minutes of any piece of your choice (unaccompanied).
BACH encourages singers to be supportive of the chorus through active participation, volunteerism, and concert promotion. Minimal dues, which cover music and other miscellaneous costs, are required; scholarship waivers are provided for those who need financial assistance.
BACH asks singers to commit to regular rehearsal attendance, with a maximum of two absences per concert (There are approximately 10 rehearsals per concert, and rehearsals are usually Monday evenings, 7:15-9:15.). In order to participate in performances with more than two absences, please contact our Music Director.
